Just something I was reminded of, and something I'm changing to cover my own ass.
Some quick simple rules for internet use @ the LAN
No P2P Traffic - NO PEER-2-PEER TRAFFIC!!!
No P2P Traffic
No Illegal content (such as pirating sites or child porno)
Downloads are only permitted for game updates/mods
If you abuse my internet, I will abuse you
Amendment to the rule above: The Viking will take you in the back and rape you
This is just a quick list of rules, and I've applied some filtering measures to help enforce these rules. However, as any tech person knows there are ways around everything. I assure, if I catch you breaking one of my above rules, I will disable your internet connection for as long as I see fit. The minimum time frame will be for the rest of the current LAN. I won't cut you off from the LAN, but you will not be able to get out to the internet.
If you think I'm being harsh or unfair, to bad. The internet for the LAN is my personal CableOne account. That means that if someone does something illegal while at the LAN, it comes back to me. If someone has to pay a fine for pirating, it will be me. If my account was shutoff because some jackass decided he needed to torrent the lastest Harry Potter movie, I'd be pretty f-ing pissed.
The idea of having internet access at the LAN is to allow members to get game updates, download mods, and maybe check e-mail and social networking. It IS NOT for people to take advantage of a high-bandwidth environment and rape the bandwidth to get some downloads in before you go back home to a crappy DSL line or something. When you rape the bandwidth then other members that are trying to get game updates have to wait longer, and then they miss out on game-play. If I catch you raping the bandwidth for personal use, as I said before, I will cut you off from the internet completely. Your block may last a few LANs.
Anyway, now that I got my rant out, I'm not going to be a complete ass about this. If you have something you would like to download that's not game related (example a movie or something) just ask me. I will probably ok it, I'll just ask that you cap the bandwidth usage so we still have bandwidth for everyone else. And I'll ensure you're not getting it from a hideous site such as mini-nova or pleasetakemetojail.com or something.
